Psychiatrist Dr. Lila Colleti is devastated when her ex-husband wins custody of their two little girls. When one of Lila’s patients, Ed Baikman, is released into a halfway house, he decides under the delusional influence of his psychosis to help by murdering her ex-husband and his girlfriend. He then threatens to tell the cops they’d planned it together when she refuses to become romantically involved with him. Lila’s lover, police detective Macy Kobacek, stands by her loyally. But Baikman is so deft in implicating Lila that even Kobacek begins to doubt Lila’s innocence.
