Roy Munson is a bowling prodigy who wins the 1979 Iowa state amateur championship and plans to leave his tiny hometown of Ocelot to go on the Professional Bowlers Tour. He wins his first tournament, defeating an established pro Ernie McCracken in the finals and earning his enmity. McCracken sabotages Roy’s car, and then involves him in a scheme that leaves him without his bowling hand. Years later, he becomes the bowling trainer for a young Amish upstart. The two cross paths with Ernie McCracken and square off for the ultimate bowling championship.
